PACIFIC OPERA PROJECT'S "VIVA LA MAMMA" by Donizetti

Table for four $120; Table for Two $65; General Admission $20

Viva la mamma! is a ridiculous farce about a regional opera company trying to put on a newly composed opera. Many, many problems complicate the process.

The biggest of course is Mamma Agatha, the mother of the seconda donna who shows up to make sure her daughter is getting a fair shake. And for no good reason at all, Donizetti decided to write the part for a BARITONE IN DRAG!

The cast features several POP standouts from the last few seasons including Ryan Thorn, Scott Levin, Matthew Ian Welch, Katherine Giaquinto, Phil Meyer, Amy Lawrence, Kyle Patterson, and Eleen Hsu-Wentlandt. Baritone Carl King makes his POP debut.

The opera will be accompanied by a small chamber orchestra and harpsichord with a new reduction by music director Stephen Karr.

unSUNg CONCERT at St. Mark's Episcopal Church

Classical Vocal chamber works that are brand new or uncommonly performed will be shared with audiences over the course of 3 concerts. This will include 2 new pieces from Br. Angelus Echeverry, a local composer, and past music director at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Los Angeles.

The two a cappella works "O Sacrum Convivium" (SATB) and "Jezu, ufam Tobie" (SSAATTBB - world premiere performance), are 'straight-forward' choral music in the spirit of Messiaen, Palestrina, Schnittke, Part, Penderecki, Tavener, Hildegard, et al. Both works are contemplative and mystical in nature; complex harmonically, yet both are emotionally expressive, intimate, translucent, containing a deep human longing for the Divine, and are permeated with a spirit of peacefulness and colorized light, yet at the same time rich with dynamic contrast.
